SuccessFactors Homepage Redesign

MY ROLE

Visual Design

Project Overview

SuccessFactors needed a new home page that would integrate 15-20 different HR modules for their 3500+ enterprise customers and 15 million users. I was the Visual Designer on this project and also contributed heavily to the overall interaction design. This was a year-long, high-profile project that was successful in developing a modern, simple, and beautiful interface that would raise the bar in the HR industry and lead the way for years to come.

Project Details

A tile-based framework was developed allowed users to customize their homepage by adding different tiles which provided an array of insight to their workflow, reports, analytics, and team members. The traditional model of digging deep into the product suite to find relevant information was replaced by intelligent tiles that surfaced important information to the user's homepage based on permission and roles. More than a dozen tiles were released during the initial launch, each with its unique functionality, visual design, and configuration options.

The UI framework went far beyond our competitors in its ease of use and emotional appeal, and worked across the huge variety of customer configurations and user types, from HR power users to occasional users. The new home page was the showcase feature of our global SuccessConnect conferences in 2012, and was launched in October 2012 to rave reviews from analysts, HR customers, and end users.

Concepting

The sheer number of documents involved in a project of this scope is too numerous to show. Needless to say, our initial ideas began with sketches, wireframes, and simple HTML click-through prototypes. Plenty of documentation from flow diagrams to user personas were created or updated each time new functionality or design was presented.

Visual Design Explorations

Over a dozen visual treatments were explored before settling on the final design.
